The BEngals didn't wait long to replace wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, today signing former Jets receiver Laveranues Coles to a 4 year $28 million deal. Houshmandzadeh got a 5 year $40 million deal from the Seahawks... on the surface if were the Bengals I would pay the extra million a year and have kept Houshmandzadeh. Coles is a very good receiver as well and brings a little more speed to the table, but doesn't have the familiarity with the offense or the rapport with Carson Palmer. Coles got away from the Jets and the $6 million they were set to pay this year... again if I were him I think I would prefer the Jets who despite their issues at quarterback should be the better team this year and in the next few to come...
T.J. Houshmandzadeh had a hard time picking his new team but in the end.... he chose the Seahawks and a 5 year $40 million deal with $15 million guaranteed. Now the Seahawks have to he can help solve their receiver problems. They though the same thing when they got Deion Branch years back, oops. They thought that when they signed Nate Burleson... what were they thinking then? Houshmandzadeh on paper will help them, now will that be enough?
Cincinnati now will have to keep Chad Johnson and find a replacement for a solid contributor on offense for years. As if they didn't have other needs to fill...
The Philadelphia Eagles have signed former Bengals tackle Stacy Andrews to a 6 year deal. He will now pair on the right side of the Eagles line with his younger brother Shawn. Both can play guard and tackle and give the Eagles a big powerful right side of the line to run behind. Not that they will run much... but they could if they wanted to. Andrews tore his ACL in the final game last season so he will be out until training camp at least, but in the meantime he can help his brother who has had issues with depression and reported late to camp last year...
The Bengals have retained safety Chris Crocker with a 4 year deal worth $10 million...
