<title>Texans take Duane Brown</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Texans needed a tackle and reached a bit for Duane Brown. They missed out on some players moving back they got extra picks and Brown has potential but not likely a premier tackle for the first round but there was growing talk about him lately and 49ers were reportedly looking at him </articlebody>

<title>Ravens keep moving</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Ravens keep moving, after missing out on Matt Ryan at #8 they traded back to #26... now they came back up to #18 to select Delaware QB Joe Flacco. Which other team moves up into round one for Brohm or Henne? The Ravens got their #2 QB on their board. Flacco looks the part and they have to be happy. The Texans move down to #26, most had them looking corner and Mike Jenkins may still be there... not likely but possible </articlebody>

<title>Drafting wide receivers</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The NFL draft is a crapshoot and the 2008 version appears to be a little more than usual. No true #1 pick, some safer picks, some with more upside.... then there is the one constant, the danger of drafting a wide receiver in round one. Rookie receivers usually do not make a big impact, junior wide receivers may be flashy choices but are even more dangerous. This year the name moving up the charts is Devin Thomas... who? He is from Michigan State and a one year wonder. Let's see a junior with only one year of production, runs fast and has good size.. shoot him up the board.... danger!

What about a couple receivers who were consider near the top - Mario Manningham and Malcolm Kelly - both juniors and both falling down the boards. Neither ran a quality 40 time, but they have excuses. Those are part of the problem. Manningham lied about failing drug tests in college, then admitted to it and then sounded like an idiot on a national radio show. He clearly doesn't get it, but it appears NFL GM's do and there is little chance he goes in round one now. Kelly didn't run well and blamed his school for changing the surface he was to run on.... you see he had special shoes and everything. Ok this shoe thing is true of everyone now a days (ugh) but to come out and bash the school was an immature and dumb move on his part.

Why do people get so caught up on a 40 time of someone on a track with special shoes when they have been preparing to run this drill for months. Are they ever asked to run the 40 without pads and in tracks shoes during a game? Jerry Rice ran a 4.55 40 coming out of college but didn't look that slow when the speedy Redskins corner Darrell Green was chasing him... who really cares. I understand it has some value but it is far too overrated. How many times do receivers run in the 4.3s and then you hear people say that team needs receivers you can stretch the field and their current group isn't getting it done. The 40 speed doesn't make them a deep threat. Even better there have been top track guys playing receiver in the NFL and referred to as more of a possession guy... not saying the assessment was wrong but pointing out they were track stars just a couple years ago... NFL speed is different than track speed. Being fast at one doesn't make you fast at the other, get it? There are plenty of teams needing a receiver and some will reach for one, more will regret than will rejoice and fans will be excited in April and forget their names in October... such is life in the NFL in April </articlebody>

<title>Vikings sign Michael Boulware</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Vikings have signed former Seahawk and Texans safety Michael Boulware. In their Tampa 2 defense he will be playing closer to the line and providing run support, if he were to win the starting job (that may not be a good sign). He is a liability in coverage but it's possible he could find a role in this defense that limits his weakness and plays to his strengths of attacking the line and playing fast. He was a linebacker in college and still plays that way </articlebody>

<title>Giants buy broken down Carr</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Giants fixed a nearly broken season last year to end up Super Bowl champs and now it seems they think they can fix a broken Carr too. They have agreed to a one year $1 million deal with former Panthers failure David Carr to backup Eli Manning (better hope he doesn't get hurt). QB coach Chris Palmer knows him from their time in Houston together, but that didn't end too well either. In the end it isn't a very expensive risk considering they didn't have a great backup anyway and Carr isn't guaranteed to make the roster </articlebody>

<title>Jacques Reeves stays in Texas</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Cowboys CB Jacques Reeves is leaving Dallas but staying in Texas as he has signed with the Houston Texans. No word on how much they paid, but he doesn't look like a great addition to us </articlebody>

<item>
<title>Jacques Reeves far too popular</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Free agency always make some scratch their head at the over priced deals and players who get picked on the previous get hyped up. For the moment we pick former Cowboys corner Jacques Reeves who is far too popular on the first day of free agency with the Bucs, Saints, Rams, Chiefs and Texans all in hot pursuit of someone who will play with a target on his back. Funny the Saints are in it, didn't they have the same thing happen last year with Jason David. If he goes to Tampa or Kansas City he may ft better in their Tampa 2 defense which won't make him run and cover deep as much </articlebody>

<title>Texans cut some fat</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Houston Texans have trimmed their roster a bit before the start of free agency letting centers Mike Flanagan and Drew Hodgdon, TE Jeb Putzier and LB Shawn Barber go. The team had hoped Putzier would be their starter at tight end after Gary Kubiak brought him over from Denver but it just didn't work out that way. Flanagan will land as a valuable backup for a year or two yet and don't rule out a return to Green Bay </articlebody>

<title>Wasting tax payers dollars</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Ah yes tax time is near and the pain of seeing how much money we fork over to cause deep pain in our stomachs. Then of course there is all the good that comes from it, such as members of congress spending the day listening to the he said she said of Roger Clemens and Brian McNamee (don't forget Andy Pettitte too) and now a new wonderful word "Nannygate", ugh what has this world come to? Add to that Arlen Specter grilling NFL commissioner Roger Goodell over the spygate issue, threatening congressional hearings and the league's antitrust exemption. Do these blowhard's not have anything better to do with their days??? Do we not have any serious issues to be tackled in this great country that we have time to bicker and seek headlines with this crap? Hey guys call me when you fix the economy, health care, homelessness in this rich country and a list longer than.... then we can get around to which retired baseball players did what. Other than Barry Bonds the rest of this is ridiculous and makes me not want to pay attention to the sports we all love so much. This country has become addicted to soap opera's and reality crap where everyone wants their 15 minutes. It's not like this is all brand new, the Steelers of the 70s admittedly used steroids and they certainly were not alone but no one is calling to take back their Super Bowl wins. Lester Hayes is probably my favorite corner of all time, but he reported used something to help him get a better grip. Can we all just move on and focus on trying to fix things rather than going over the top about the past. Either way Roger was dominant, the Patriots were superior and as much as it pains us Bonds was a Hall of Famer before they all crossed the line </articlebody>

<title>Paying running backs big money</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Each year some teams struggle with the decision to pay a running back big money. A couple years ago it was the Seahawks Shaun Alexander who got the big deal and has done nothing since. This the Chiefs Larry Johnson held out for a big contract to have a horrible year. Meanwhile the Packers lack of a running game was a huge concern this year, and out of nowhere comes Ryan Grant who was with the Giants during training camp and he now has a 5 yard per carry average. Some thought they should have kept Ahman Green even at age 30, but he has logged only 70 carries this year for the Texans and 260 yards for a huge 3.7 yard average, and wasn't that a concern last year how the last two years in Green bay his average was down. The Broncos have shown it for years that you can get by without a huge contract to a back, though they did pay a bit this year for Travis Henry, and Selvin Young is out-performing him. It is hard to let them go or not pay them, but it can be hard on the future if you do too often as well </articlebody>

<title>Great article</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Here is a great article by Fox Sports' <A href="http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7146400?CMP=OTC-K9B140813162&ATT=5" target="_blank"> John Czarnecki</A> about how the NFL rookie are being paid way too much. "It doesn't make sense that LaRon Landry is the highest paid safety in the game," Cowboys executive Stephen Jones told me. "And that Joe Thomas (Cleveland's top pick) has a better deal than Tom Brady. For example, Chiefs running back Larry Johnson signed yesterday for less guaranteed money than what Johnson and Thomas collected, and only a moron would say those rookies deserve more than one of the NFL's best running backs... we're right there with you John, good work</A> </articlebody>

<title>A new Carr in the driveway</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>There's a new Carr in the driveway in Carolina, not a shiny new one as this one has some dents and dings but it's not too old and could be a keeper. David Carr has chosen the Panthers as his new team agreeing to a two year deal according to the Charlotte Observer. Panther's head coach John Fox maintains that Jake Delhomme is the starter, but the addition of Carr will put some pressure on him and if he struggles again this year there may be a short leash. Carr never really got going in Houston, battered in his first year and protection was an issue every year. That leads some to wonder if he can regain his form... from college. It would do him well to sit the bench a bit and regroup, if he is mentally strong enough he could re-emerge and make a new name for himself </articlebody>

<articlebody>All you can say is Wow... the Houston Texans have completed the trade for former Falcons backup QB Matt Schaub by agreeing to a long term contract. That deal... and make sure you're sitting down for this one... $48 million over 6 years with $7 million guaranteed and $20 million in the first three years according to ESPN. He certainly has ability but he has never won a regular season start, has attempted only 161 passes in the regular season completing 84 of them for a measly 52.2%, has thrown 6 TDs and 6 INTs and has a passer rating of 69.2. The backup is always the favorite and looks good but wow is that a lot to pay for an unknown. Granted JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn will get more for having done even less but man every father needs to take his boys outside to throw the ball, when night time comes they can go break down the practice films. We like Schaub too but you have to be nervous about this one especially with the way David Carr got beaten behind this line </articlebody>

<title>Falcons trade QB Matt Schaub</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Atlanta Falcons are pinning their hopes on Michael Vick. Driving that point home they are close to completing a deal to send backup QB Matt Schaub to the Houston Texans according to ESPN. The Falcons would swap spots with the Texans in the first round this year, the Falcons move from #10 to #8 and get a second round pick both this year and in 2008. The move puts a dagger in David Carr and ends speculation the Texans may take a QB in the first round. The Falcons clearly are the winners here at least for now. If Schaub tears up the league that may change but for now the winner is easy. Everyone seems to love Schaub, but he hasn't played that much to really prove he is the man. I remember another QB everyone loved years back named Rob Johnson. The Bills paid heavily to get him and watch him flop. The Falcons move in front of the Texans and Dolphins in the first round putting them in better position to land either Levi Brown or LaRon Landry as well as an extra second round pick to help new head coach Bobby Petrino get the players he wants </articlebody>

The signing reunites him with former Packers head coach, now Texans assistant head coach Mike Sherman. <title>Jeff Garcia not getting his number in Oakland</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Raiders and QB Jeff Garcia are at a stalemate according to the San Francisco Chronicle, and Garcia will be exploring other options while the Raiders look around as well. Garcia has the Bucs, Texans and possibly Broncos interested as well. Though the Broncos will likely be looking for a less expensive option such as Brad Johnson with their money going other places in an active start to free agency. The Raiders have the first pick in the draft but no veteran QB to help the transition for JaMarcus Russell if projections are right. At this point it may be the Bucs that show that most interest and try to get a deal done quickly after losing out on Jake Plummer </articlebody>

<title>Line still a concern for Texans</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Houston Texans will again be looking to improve the line and specifically the left tackle spot with Charles Spencer's injury looking career threatening. Free agency is a bit soft unless someone gets released, but that isn't too likely. They will again have to look to the draft for their man. With the 8th pick Joe Thomas will likely be gone so they will either look to Levi Brown or in the second round if Tony Ugoh or Joe Staley is still available. Left tackle has been a sore spot since the Texans hit the field and injuries contributing a bit to that. Tony Boselli was suppose to secure that spot for the first 7-10 years of the franchise but that didn't work and they have been looking ever since </articlebody>
