<title>Taylor finally out of Miami</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Jason Taylor finally got out of Miami after the Redskins traded for him. Now that he is in Washington, think he'll try politics too? Or maybe he should just focus on football for now? Novel idea. Was a good move for both but the Redskins always seem to lose draft picks which always seems to haunt them </articlebody>

<title>Redskins add Kelly</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Continuing theme here in round two, players who a month or two ago thought to be going in the first rounder slide... the Redskins stopped the slide for WR Malcolm Kelly at #51. He was initially thought to be the pick at #11 to the Bills... then that pick was suppose to be Devin Thomas... in the end they BOTH land in Washington for the Redskins, who also got Fred Davis have made a major move to improve their offense and make Jason Campbell very very happy. Kelly was hurt by slow 40 times and his mouth, but at this point he is a great pick </articlebody>

<title>Redskins get Fred Davis</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>USC tight end Fred Davis was thought early on to be a first round pick, but fell to round two and the Redskins scooped him up. He is a good receiving tight end </articlebody>

<title>Redskins get receiver</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Here comes the run on receivers with the second in a row. The Redskins have selected WR Devin Thomas who was a fast rising player but while many had him going #11 overall he lasted into round two where he belongs so we'll be nicer here than we would have at #11. Thomas is explosive but a one year guy and a junior... two things that don't always work in the NFL </articlebody>

<title>Falcons come up</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Falcons were thought to be a team coming up to get a quarterback if they didn't take Matt Ryan... but they got Ryan and the Falcons decided to come back into round one as well... with the Redskins pick at #21 offensive tackle Sam Baker. What a BAD move. He is a good tackle but it is a position with depth in the draft and they had the picks in round two to get one. Baker is not a value here. Definitely not worth moving up for him </articlebody>

<title>Bengals admit Redskins offer</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>So now Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis after yesterday denying the Redskins made an offer for WR Chad Johnson, is denying the denial. Ok he didn't deny he denied it, but he does now say it's true. Good to know you can trust they guys isn't it? Anyway still like that they turned it down and are daring him to sit out </articlebody>

<title>Go home Ocho</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis is denying the ESPN report of the Redskins offer for WR Ocho Stinky, but that doesn't mean they have any interest in trading him either. Lewis told the CIncinnati Enquirer that Johnson should keep his word and sit out the year... sounds like a plan we can endorse </articlebody>

<title>Bengals may be nuts</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Bengals may be nuts, is this news? According to ESPN the Bengals have turned down an offer from the Washington Redskins for WR Chad Johnson... a first round pick this year, #21 overall, and a conditional third round pick next year that could escalate to a first rounder! Also they have told the Eagles and Cowboys they are not interested in trading the malcontent childish receiver. Hey were all for demanding players knock off the cry baby crap, threatening to hold out for the year etc. It's not like Johnson is not being paid well, he is. He can rot while others play the game for all we care, same should have been done with T.O. when he was whining to get out of the deal that had him go to the Ravens to end up in Philly, how well did that work out? Johnson is making enemies and we like the Bengals stand but it must hurt to pass up an offer like that </articlebody>

<title>2008 NFL Mock Draft</title>

<title>Drafting wide receivers</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The NFL draft is a crapshoot and the 2008 version appears to be a little more than usual. No true #1 pick, some safer picks, some with more upside.... then there is the one constant, the danger of drafting a wide receiver in round one. Rookie receivers usually do not make a big impact, junior wide receivers may be flashy choices but are even more dangerous. This year the name moving up the charts is Devin Thomas... who? He is from Michigan State and a one year wonder. Let's see a junior with only one year of production, runs fast and has good size.. shoot him up the board.... danger!

What about a couple receivers who were consider near the top - Mario Manningham and Malcolm Kelly - both juniors and both falling down the boards. Neither ran a quality 40 time, but they have excuses. Those are part of the problem. Manningham lied about failing drug tests in college, then admitted to it and then sounded like an idiot on a national radio show. He clearly doesn't get it, but it appears NFL GM's do and there is little chance he goes in round one now. Kelly didn't run well and blamed his school for changing the surface he was to run on.... you see he had special shoes and everything. Ok this shoe thing is true of everyone now a days (ugh) but to come out and bash the school was an immature and dumb move on his part.

Why do people get so caught up on a 40 time of someone on a track with special shoes when they have been preparing to run this drill for months. Are they ever asked to run the 40 without pads and in tracks shoes during a game? Jerry Rice ran a 4.55 40 coming out of college but didn't look that slow when the speedy Redskins corner Darrell Green was chasing him... who really cares. I understand it has some value but it is far too overrated. How many times do receivers run in the 4.3s and then you hear people say that team needs receivers you can stretch the field and their current group isn't getting it done. The 40 speed doesn't make them a deep threat. Even better there have been top track guys playing receiver in the NFL and referred to as more of a possession guy... not saying the assessment was wrong but pointing out they were track stars just a couple years ago... NFL speed is different than track speed. Being fast at one doesn't make you fast at the other, get it? There are plenty of teams needing a receiver and some will reach for one, more will regret than will rejoice and fans will be excited in April and forget their names in October... such is life in the NFL in April </articlebody>

<title>Bears add a receiver</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Bears are still looking to improve their situation at wide receiver after the loss of Bernard Berrian to the Vikings. First they signed Marty Booker who is hoping a return to Chicago will help return him to past success. Now they have signed former Redskins and 49ers receiver Brandon Lloyd to a one year deal for the veteran's minimum. The 49ers snookered a couple of draft picks out of the Redskins for Lloyd, but the Redskins compounded the error by giving him a big new contract... after that blew up in their face they released him this year. Lloyd has always been a little too infatuated with himself is hoping a return to Illinois (he went to the University of Illinois when current Bears coordinator Ron Turner was the head coach there) will help him do the same. Don't hold your breath on him making the roster though. While he can make a spectacular catch now and again and get up and let you know about it, the rest of the time he does little as the Redskins so painfully found out </articlebody>

<title>Redskins dump Brandon Lloyd</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Can you hear the chuckle coming from San Francisco? The Redskins today released WR Brandon Lloyd who caught 25 balls in 2 years with the team. The 49ers suckered them for a 4th pick for Lloyd who made some acrobatic catches in San Francisco but was trouble just waiting to happen. The Redskins not only gave up the draft pick but gave him a huge new contract with $10 million guaranteed. Think they will do better this year? Last year they dumped Adam Archuleta off after giving him a ridiculous contract </articlebody>

<title>Wasting tax payers dollars</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Ah yes tax time is near and the pain of seeing how much money we fork over to cause deep pain in our stomachs. Then of course there is all the good that comes from it, such as members of congress spending the day listening to the he said she said of Roger Clemens and Brian McNamee (don't forget Andy Pettitte too) and now a new wonderful word "Nannygate", ugh what has this world come to? Add to that Arlen Specter grilling NFL commissioner Roger Goodell over the spygate issue, threatening congressional hearings and the league's antitrust exemption. Do these blowhard's not have anything better to do with their days??? Do we not have any serious issues to be tackled in this great country that we have time to bicker and seek headlines with this crap? Hey guys call me when you fix the economy, health care, homelessness in this rich country and a list longer than.... then we can get around to which retired baseball players did what. Other than Barry Bonds the rest of this is ridiculous and makes me not want to pay attention to the sports we all love so much. This country has become addicted to soap opera's and reality crap where everyone wants their 15 minutes. It's not like this is all brand new, the Steelers of the 70s admittedly used steroids and they certainly were not alone but no one is calling to take back their Super Bowl wins. Lester Hayes is probably my favorite corner of all time, but he reported used something to help him get a better grip. Can we all just move on and focus on trying to fix things rather than going over the top about the past. Either way Roger was dominant, the Patriots were superior and as much as it pains us Bonds was a Hall of Famer before they all crossed the line </articlebody>

<title>Jim Zorn new Redskins coach</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Have the Redskins lost their minds? After a long and strange process the Washington Redskins have found their new head coach and as expected it was one of their coordinators. Afterall Gregg Williams was the favorite from the start.... problem is the team fired their coordinators and hired new ones and that is where the new head coach Jim Zorn came from. Hired a couple of weeks ago to be their offensive coordinator, he now gets a quick promotion and a 5 year $15 million contract according to reports. Zorn was the Seahawks QB coach and had never been a coordinator before, is he ready for this? The Redskins had always been high profile under Daniel Snyder and now take a huge risk. Zorn will likely bring the West Coast offense to Washington and while their are still some experienced assistants this is a dangerous move for a team close to taking the next step. A big change on offense and a head coach who will have to win over the players </articlebody>

<title>Redskins step back</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>So much for Gregg Williams being the leading candidate for the Redskins job. It was earlier reported he was no longer in the running for the head job, but now both he and offensive coordinator Al Saunders have been fired. Greg Blache was promoted to be the new defensive coordinator and Jim Zorn has been hired from Seattle to run the offense. Interesting this is all done without a head coach and an announcement there is unlikely before the Super Bowl. Seems Daniel Snyder is abandoning his high priced assistant ways. Both Williams and Saunders were among the highest paid coordinators. This certainly looks like a step back. Blache won't excite anyone and Zorn is a first time coordinator... maybe one step back to go 2 forward. Can't say what their thinking yet, but doesn't look real impressive </articlebody>

<title>Jim Mora out in DC</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>This year has been interesting, more than I can remember in the last 5 years combined there are so many coaches withdrawing from consideration or not even wanting to interview for head coaching job this year it is getting comical. The latest is Seahawks assistant Jim Mora who has pulled out of consideration with the Redskins... let that lead to rumors about Mike Holmgren. Anyway it seems Gregg Williams is the man there anyway </articlebody>

<title>Garrett and Ravens close</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Reports are circulating that the Ravens and Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett are close or that the Ravens have offered him the job. Teams usually don't release that so a safe bet in Garrett did to up the ante. The Cowboys are said to be willing to match any offer to keep him as their coordinator, which is probably the best job for him on 2008. The Falcons are still in the mix, and a surprise is Redskins owner Daniel Snyder has called. That is a big rivalry and to take their coach would make it more interesting. The Seahawks could be a player if Mike Holmgren decides to step down but Garrett may not be on the market much longer either </articlebody>

<title>Mora possibly to the other Washington</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Former Falcons head coach Jim Mora Jr was at least partly fired because of his radio comments that he'd take the Washington job if offered. Most then assumed it to be the University of Washington, but now the "Washington" Redskins are interviewing him for the head coaching job. While Mora made his share of mistakes he was an good head coach and should get another chance. That said not with the Redskins right now. Mora could be a possible successor when Mike Holmgren steps done, which possibly could come in days. It was good for Mora to get the interview and his name out there, but this job looks like Gregg Williams </articlebody>

<title>Caldwell a popular man</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Colts assistant head coach and QB coach Jim Caldwell is a popular man right now. He has been a target of all the head coach openings with the exception of Miami. However his most likely chance at a head coaching gig is in Indy. Either after this year or next Tony Dungy is likely to retire and Cadwell would be the most likely replacement. The Rooney rule requires teams to interview at least one minority coach before hiring, has done a lot of good to be sure. It is certainly getting Caldwell's name out there, but it won't likely land him a job. Last year 49ers assistant head coach Mike Singletary was a hot candidate and was at that time said to be very impressive, but he hasn't gotten so much as a nibble this year. Continuing the interesting way "hot" candidates come and go look at Jim Schwartz, who nearly landed the job with the 49ers that went to Mike Nolan and then was untouched for two years and now is hot again. The same thing happened to current Packers head man Mike McCarrthy, who while the Saints offensive coordinator was a hot name only to disappear for a few years and then surprisingly landed the Packers job and look what he has done there. It is interesting how this all works, not necessarily smart but interesting </articlebody>

<title>Redskins start to interview</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Redskins defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is the leading candidate to replace Joe Gibbs as the head coach in Washington, but the first interview was Titans coordinator Jim Schwartz. <title>Gibbs to retire</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs has decided to retire as coach and president of the Redskins. The move comes following a 9-7 season and a first round exit in the playoffs. Obviously a tough year for the team, Gibbs leaves after 4 years having improved the team and leaving one year on his contract. Both coordinators would fit as a successor and the early leader is defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is the early favorite as he was brought on with the idea of succeeding Gibbs when he retired </articlebody>

<title>Giants pull out a win</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Redskins were up 17-3 on their way to a 3-0 start but then the Giants finally got going and pulled out a 24-17 win. The Redskins had a chance to tie at the end and had some impressive plays on the final drive, but rushed too much, clocking the ball on first down near the goal line and hurrying up on 4th and goal... with time on the clock they rushed and were stopped on 4th down by the Giants D that needed a big stop. Their defense was a big key in the second half allowing them to come back. Plaxico had all of his 5 catches for 86 yards and a TD in the second half. Doomsday will have to wait a week in Giants-land, now can they build on a great second half and come out this way next week? As for the Redskins, it was a tough loss but they must be happy starting out 2-1 as well </articlebody>

On the other side the Redskins are 2-0 after the 20-12 win on Monday night. QB Jason Campbell is steadily improving for the Redskins and Joe Gibbs has to be happy with the start. Eagles fans are, well how should we say it? A little less than happy as they have lost 6 of the last 7 games that McNabb has started. </articlebody>

"It doesn't make sense that LaRon Landry is the highest paid safety in the game," Cowboys executive Stephen Jones told me. "And that Joe Thomas (Cleveland's top pick) has a better deal than Tom Brady. For example, Chiefs running back Larry Johnson signed yesterday for less guaranteed money than what Johnson and Thomas collected, and only a moron would say those rookies deserve more than one of the NFL's best running backs... we're right there with you John, good work</A> </articlebody>

<title>Landry gets signed</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Redskins have signed their first round pick, number six overall, S LaRon Landry to a 5 year deal worth a max of $41.5 million and $17.5 million guaranteed according to ESPN. Just last week Steelers safety Troy Polamalu got a 4 year extension worth just over $30 million and $15 million guaranteed... oh how screwed up this rookie system is. Landry <I>looks</I> to be the real deal, but Polamalu certainly is. Landry will team with Sean Taylor to make up the back half of a second where both player were top 10 picks and should be the best tandem in the league soon enough. Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has been licking his lips ever since the draft to get these two lined up side by side. He likes to play an aggressive defense and with these two prowling he should be able to be creative </articlebody>

Blades who doesn't have he measurables but has the heart to be in the league for a long time. They also got QB Jordan Palmer and TE Tyler Ecker from Michigan. Their draft can be looked as good or bad. Bad because of the lack of picks and not addressing a need until the 5th round, or as a success for getting good value at each pick, not trading away any of next year's picks where maybe they will use the draft more to build the team. Overall we choose the positive for the Redskins who were handicapped coming in </articlebody>

<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The New Orleans Saints have signed veteran WR David Patten to a one year contract. Patten spent the last two years in the witness protection program, perfectly hidden at the bottom of the Redskins depth chart after successful years with the Patriots. Patten is a good addition for the Saints. Without Joe Horn this year, Patten's experience will help Drew Brees and compliment the younger receivers </articlebody>

<title>What are they doing in Washington</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>What are they doing in Washington? No this isn't a political question, though it would be a valid one most days. The Redskins according to ESPN have setup a predraft meeting with LSU QB JaMarcus Russell. Interesting in that they have a first round QB, Jason Campbell, from just two years ago and have other much more pressing needs. Daniel Snyder loves to make a splash and despite comments this year would be different, it still looks the same </articlebody>

<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Chicago Bears are talking with guess who about LB Lance Briggs, that's right the Washington Redskins. Who reported the Redskins were going to give up their free agency ways and actually care about the draft this year. We doubted that from day one. There were even reports they wanted to trade back in the first round to acquire more picks. Well enough of that, according to the NFL Network the two teams are discussing a trade for Briggs that would have them swap spots in the first round. The Redskins currently hold the number six spot while the Bears are picking 31st </articlebody>

<articlebody>The Washington Redskins have traded free agent bust Adam Archuleta to the Chicago Bears pending a physical for a low round pick in the upcoming draft. Archuleta had a $5 million bonus due forcing the Redskins hand, who signed him to an outrageous free agent contract last year and quickly realized how big a mistake it was and benched him. Archuleta will now be reunited with Lovie Smith who believes he will get the most out of the physical safety who is more like a linebacker. <title>Dre Bly not too happy in Denver</title>

<articlebody>New Broncos CB Dre Bly may not be too happy with his trade from Detroit. According to the Washington Post through sources that talked to Bly are reporting he wanted to go to the Redskins where he would get a big contract extension. The report says the Broncos are not interested in giving him an extension. He has only one year left on his deal and it would be surprising if the Broncos traded for him as a one year stop gap. Bly will turn 30 before the season and may like the idea of locking in a new deal now. However playing across from Champ Bailey in Denver if he has a good year he could cash in next year in free agency if the Broncos don't give him an extension </articlebody>
