<title>Jaguars move up</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Jaguars added Derrick Harvey in round one to help their pass rush but it appears they wanted more... they traded up with the Bucs in round two to get Quentin Groves, who is an undersized end and will be a situational rusher. He could have been an every down OLB in a 3-4... interesting move </articlebody>

<title>Jags pay the piper</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Jaguars paid the piper to move up, giving the Ravens their first round pick, #26 overall, 2 third round picks, #71 and #89 overall and their 4th round pick. The Ravens should be looking quarterback at #26 and could have their choice of the 2nd tier QBs. Some of the teams in the top of round two were looking to move up and picks 27-29 were open to trade so the Ravens are above them </articlebody>

<title>Jaguars move way up</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Jaguars have moved way up to the Ravens #8 spot from #26... that will be a hefty price to pay... The Jaguars needed a top defensive end and they knew there would not be great value at #26 so they paid to come up and take Derrick Harvey, the next best end available. The Bengals could have been looking at him and he should upgrade the Jaguars line that is in a bit of transition </articlebody>

<title>Final 2008 NFL Mock Draft</title>

<articlebody>Ok here is our final <a href="http://www.pfinsider.net/rumorst.php?ref=35"><B>2008 NFL Mock Draft</B></A>. Glad we got the first pick right and guaranteed not to get all 32 thanks to the Patriots, but never came close anyway </articlebody>

<title>2008 NFL Mock Draft</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>So it's time to release our first 2008 NFL Mock Draft - another will come Friday before the draft. There is lots of intrigue and different scenarios and some trades will factor in of course, but we'll take a look where things are at now. See our <a href="http://www.pfinsider.net/rumorst.php?ref=34">2008 NFL Mock Draft</A>

<title>Chiefs willing to deal Jared Allen</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>With the draft approaching the Chiefs have decided to shop franchise DE Jared Allen, and there is interest. The Vikings and Bucs are the most interested but the Jaguars could be as well. It's not known what the Chiefs will demand in return, but it will include a first rounder this year and likely a third as well, or better next year. Allen had 15.5 sacks last year and is one of the top ends in the league, but also one strike away from a one year suspension so there is risk in trading away a couple of high picks and of course the huge long term deal he wants for someone that close to being gone. Not that that will stop someone from trading for him. The move would give the Chiefs more options as they could take Vernon Gholston to replace him at #5 and get a tackle with the first round pick they get in return, or get a lineman at #5 - Jake Long if a miracle happened or more likely Branden Albert or Ryan Clady and then target one of the ends or corners later in the first. The extra picks would certainly give them more options for rebuilding the team </articlebody>

<title>Drafting wide receivers</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The NFL draft is a crapshoot and the 2008 version appears to be a little more than usual. No true #1 pick, some safer picks, some with more upside.... then there is the one constant, the danger of drafting a wide receiver in round one. Rookie receivers usually do not make a big impact, junior wide receivers may be flashy choices but are even more dangerous. This year the name moving up the charts is Devin Thomas... who? He is from Michigan State and a one year wonder. Let's see a junior with only one year of production, runs fast and has good size.. shoot him up the board.... danger!

What about a couple receivers who were consider near the top - Mario Manningham and Malcolm Kelly - both juniors and both falling down the boards. Neither ran a quality 40 time, but they have excuses. Those are part of the problem. Manningham lied about failing drug tests in college, then admitted to it and then sounded like an idiot on a national radio show. He clearly doesn't get it, but it appears NFL GM's do and there is little chance he goes in round one now. Kelly didn't run well and blamed his school for changing the surface he was to run on.... you see he had special shoes and everything. Ok this shoe thing is true of everyone now a days (ugh) but to come out and bash the school was an immature and dumb move on his part.

Why do people get so caught up on a 40 time of someone on a track with special shoes when they have been preparing to run this drill for months. Are they ever asked to run the 40 without pads and in tracks shoes during a game? Jerry Rice ran a 4.55 40 coming out of college but didn't look that slow when the speedy Redskins corner Darrell Green was chasing him... who really cares. I understand it has some value but it is far too overrated. How many times do receivers run in the 4.3s and then you hear people say that team needs receivers you can stretch the field and their current group isn't getting it done. The 40 speed doesn't make them a deep threat. Even better there have been top track guys playing receiver in the NFL and referred to as more of a possession guy... not saying the assessment was wrong but pointing out they were track stars just a couple years ago... NFL speed is different than track speed. Being fast at one doesn't make you fast at the other, get it? There are plenty of teams needing a receiver and some will reach for one, more will regret than will rejoice and fans will be excited in April and forget their names in October... such is life in the NFL in April </articlebody>

<title>David Garrard gets extension</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Jaguars QB David Garrard signed a contract extension with the team. He didn't hold out for all he could get. There were reports he was using Cowboys QB Tony Romo's 6 year $67.5 million deal as a target, but instead he "settled" for a 7 year $60 million extension which is the richest in Jaguars history. He is now pretty locked up and secured for life as a Jaguar after taking over as the starter last year for Byron Leftwich, where is he now??? Should be a happy day in Jacksonville today </articlebody>

<title>Giants sign Sammy Knight</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The New York Giants have signed veteran safety Sammy Knight to replace Gibril Wilson. Knight got a 3 year $5.15 million contract with $1.25 million as a signing bonus... quite a bit less than the $39 million Wilson got in Oakland. Now we'll have to wait and see on the production difference </articlebody>

<title>Saints add Bobby McCray</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Saints have signed former Jaguars DE Bobby McCray to a 5 year deal worth $20 million... to be a backup? Will Smith and Charles Grant are the starters, seems the Saints liked what they saw from the Giants and their pass rush last year. He had just 3 sacks last year but 10 the year before. The Saints have the expensive group of ends </articlebody>

<title>Marcus Stroud traded to Buffalo</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Jaguars have traded DT Marcus Stroud to to the Buffalo Bills for a 3rd and 5th round pick this year (sound like a familiar cost?). There had reports that Stroud cut his visit short, but obviously everything was worked. Stroud gives them a major presence inside, provided he behaves as he is one strike away from a year long suspension </articlebody>

<title>Jaguars sign Drayton Florence</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Jaguars have signed former Chargers corner Drayton Florence, who lost his starting job last year to Antonio Cromartie. Florence will likely be the nickel back but would be a solid fill in starter as well, and a nickel corner is key when they play the Colts twice a year </articlebody>

<title>Dolphins add two more</title>

<title>Jaguars add receivers with issues</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Jaguars continue to add receivers, the biggest questions is if they are getting better? The Troy Williams trade with the Vikings is done for a 6th rounder, and former Raiders WR Jerry Porter is signed now as well. He got 6 years and $30 million. For all his talent he has had more than a few issues in recent years in Oakland, will he turn out to be a quiet productive player now? The Jags receivers are like the Broncos defensive line, every year it's something but never better </articlebody>

<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Washiington Redskins have kept backup QB Todd Collins with a 3 year $9 million deal. <title>Troy Williamson heading to Jaguars</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Rumors have it the Vikings have a deal in place to send WR Troy Williamson to Jacksonville for a late round pick. They are "rumors" because team can't make trades until Friday, but deals are being made in Indy during the combine. Williamson has been a huge bust and will reunite with Mike Tice who was the Vikings coach when they wasted the #7 pick in the draft on him. The Jaguars mess with 1st round receivers will grow, but they have little risk as his base salary is low so it may be worth a shot on him, just don't hold your breath </articlebody>

<title>Wasting tax payers dollars</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Ah yes tax time is near and the pain of seeing how much money we fork over to cause deep pain in our stomachs. Then of course there is all the good that comes from it, such as members of congress spending the day listening to the he said she said of Roger Clemens and Brian McNamee (don't forget Andy Pettitte too) and now a new wonderful word "Nannygate", ugh what has this world come to? Add to that Arlen Specter grilling NFL commissioner Roger Goodell over the spygate issue, threatening congressional hearings and the league's antitrust exemption. Do these blowhard's not have anything better to do with their days??? Do we not have any serious issues to be tackled in this great country that we have time to bicker and seek headlines with this crap? Hey guys call me when you fix the economy, health care, homelessness in this rich country and a list longer than.... then we can get around to which retired baseball players did what. Other than Barry Bonds the rest of this is ridiculous and makes me not want to pay attention to the sports we all love so much. This country has become addicted to soap opera's and reality crap where everyone wants their 15 minutes. It's not like this is all brand new, the Steelers of the 70s admittedly used steroids and they certainly were not alone but no one is calling to take back their Super Bowl wins. Lester Hayes is probably my favorite corner of all time, but he reported used something to help him get a better grip. Can we all just move on and focus on trying to fix things rather than going over the top about the past. Either way Roger was dominant, the Patriots were superior and as much as it pains us Bonds was a Hall of Famer before they all crossed the line </articlebody>

<title>Gregg Williams lands in Jacksonville</title>

<title>Falcons finally done</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Falcons finally have a new head coach, former Jaguars defensive coordinator Mike Smith. It is not the flashy hire you expected from owner Arthur Blank, but that is not a bad thing! After the Bobby Petrino fiasco Blank needed to hire the "right" coach, not necessarily the most popular. Initial review have been positive, but Smith has never been a head coach at any level and has a lot of work to do with this team, so we'll have to wait a year or two to see what he can do </articlebody>

<title>Another win for New England</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Not much in the way of surprises in the award season as today Bill Belichick was named as the AP coach of the year. He won with 29 votes, Packers coach Mike McCarthy was second with 15 of the 50 available votes. You can talk about spygate if want, but seriously they went 16-0.... who else did more than that? The Packers 13-3 season was great, but even a 15-1 season is a long ways from 16-0! Sygate happened during the first game and had no effect on the rest of the year. Belichick without doubt deserved the award and if anything we are surprised he didn't get more votes! Dallas' Wade Phillips and Jacksonville's Jack Del Rio each got 2 votes, and Indianapolis' Tony Dungy and Tampa Bay's Jon Gruden got one each to round out the voting </articlebody>

<title>Martz not going to 49ers</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>It was a bad report in the first place but it made the rounds, now CBS Sportsline is reporting that Martz has said he 99% sure it isn't going to happen as his agent (who is also Mike Nolan's agent) told him they are no longer interested. Sometimes there is too much reaching for an idea and it spreads like a wildfire without enough people thinking it through. It would have been a horrible decision for the 49ers who need to get it right. The hardest part for the 49ers is getting someone who won't be a head coach again in a year. Most everyone thought Norv Turner wasn't going to get another shot, especially that fast. One year later there was not only one but two teams after him. Dolphins head coach Cam Cameron would be a good choice if he is fired, but a good year and he may get a shot again, we would doubt it but... Martz is heading home now and isn't sure where he'll wind up. His style makes it hard to find a good place. Not that he'd fit with the head coach, but the Chiefs are looking for a new coordinator. Former coordinator Al Saunders ran a similar offense before he left. Wow would that be hard to see, he and Herm Edwards </articlebody>

<title>Jags lose Peterson</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Jacksonville Jaguars will lose MLB Mike Peterson for at least a few weeks and maybe the rest of the year after he broke his hand Sunday. For a team looking to make a big push in December this is a big blow. The Colts have some cracks and the are hoping to blow through with a strong defense but Peterson was a major part of that. They will need a few players to step up to make up for the loss </articlebody>

<articlebody>The Jaguars finally found their run defense holding the Broncos to 47 yards on the ground in a 23-14 win Sunday. The run defense combined with their 186 yards on the ground the Jags controlled the clock holding it for over 39 minutes. Broncos WR Brandon Marshall had a good day with 133 yards on 7 catches </articlebody>

Not good news for the Jaguars who released Donovin Darius in the off season and lost Deon Grant in free agency. First round pick Reggie Nelson has been starting at free safety and now will likely be paired with Sammy Knight who signed just before the start of the season. To add depth they signed Jamaal Fudge who was released during camp </articlebody>

<title>Byron Leftwich now a Falcon</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Falcons have signed QB Byron Leftwich to a 2 year $6 million deal according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Leftwich won't start or likely be active this week but don't expect it to take long before he starts, despite not knowing the offense, after all it can't get worse. Leftwich will get his shot but expect the team to look at taking a QB with the "high" first round pick next year </articlebody>

<title>What a win for the Jaguars</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>It counts as a win, but the Jaguars pulling out a 13-7 win over the Falcons is hardly impressive as the team pulls to 1-1 on the year. Their defense had 7 sacks of Joey Harrington which should be enough for the Falcons to start looking for a replacement... rumor has it the Jags let a starting caliber QB go before the start of the year who is still available. Neither run game was impressive and the Jags defense gets the win </articlebody>

<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Silly us we thought the Jags could stop the run.... um that's funny. The Titans put up a whopping 282 yards on the Jaguars with Chris Brown leading the way with 175 yards on 19 carries. <title>Boller not done in Baltimore</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>So throw basic logic out. The Baltimore Ravens have signed QB Kyle Boller to a one year extension worth up to $3 million according to the Baltimore Sun. Most everyone believed the Ravens would sign Byron Leftwich next week and use the year to gauge him and develop the replacement for Steve McNair. Boller being in his final year was not expected to be offered a contract after the season, but now that is out. This will leave Leftwich searching a little more. Atlanta is possible as is Minnesota, but we don't think either will go after him unless there are major major issues this weekend </articlebody>

<title>Great article</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Here is a great article by Fox Sports' <A href="http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7146400?CMP=OTC-K9B140813162&ATT=5" target="_blank"> John Czarnecki</A> about how the NFL rookie are being paid way too much. "It doesn't make sense that LaRon Landry is the highest paid safety in the game," Cowboys executive Stephen Jones told me. "And that Joe Thomas (Cleveland's top pick) has a better deal than Tom Brady. For example, Chiefs running back Larry Johnson signed yesterday for less guaranteed money than what Johnson and Thomas collected, and only a moron would say those rookies deserve more than one of the NFL's best running backs... we're right there with you John, good work</A> </articlebody>

<title>QB fun in Tampa</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>So Jeff Garcia is the QB of the moment for the Bucs, but they are after Dauntee Culpepper and have Chris Simms backing up Garcia now as well. Not so sure Dauntee would be a good fit with coach Gruden, the Falcons look like a better choice but we doubt he'd start for either team opening day. Certainly both team would give him an opportunity eventually though. Jacksonville is possible as well, but that wouldn't be to calm a situation </articlebody>

<title>Jaguars add a linebacker</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>In round two the Jaguars added LB Justin Durant from Hampton. Durnat is a bit undersized and being from a small school didn't help him but he is smart and will add more youth and depth at linebacker after Clint Ingram started as a rookie last year and push Daryl Smith </articlebody>

<title>Broncos trade up for Jarvis Moss</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Jaguars traded with the Broncos to move back 4 spots. The Broncos always need a speed rusher, in taking Jarvis Moss #17 overall they got one of the best in the draft. He reminds many of Jevon Kearse and should help get a push and with Champ Bailey and Dre Bly lurking back there they could get a lot more interceptions. it was a very good pick but they paid an expensive price of a 3rd and 6th round pick to move up and get him </articlebody>

<title>Randy Moss not moving yet</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Don't buy into the Randy Moss trade rumors too much. Reports are everywhere on the internet of the Raiders close to trading him. The Jaguars had been mentioned but are out after signing Dennis Northcutt (not that he is a top starter, but they have enough warm bodies now), the Packers and Patriots are also being heavily mentioned. Everyone take a deep breath though. The Patriots just signed Wes Welker and as much as Brett Favre would like Randy Moss in Green Bay it isn't going to happen too soon if ever. Still scratching our heads over it but the Packers won't dismiss it </articlebody>

<title>Jaguars sign Dennis Northcutt</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed former Browns receiver Dennis Northcutt to a 5 year contract averaging $3.4 per season with a $4.5 million signing bonus according to the Florida Times-Union. The deal is expected to be signed tomorrow pending a physical. That is quite a contract for someone who had 22 catches last year for 228 yards. He is a solid punt returner as well and adds a veteran to the receiving corp that was needed, though he is unikely to win a starting job so you would have to say the pay is a little high. It will also take them out of talks for Raiders WR Randy Moss </articlebody>

<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Are the Jaguars interested in Seahawks WR Darrell Jackson who is on the trade block? <title>What to do at receiver?</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Jacksonville Jaguars need to get more production out of their wide receivers. First round picks Reggie Williams and Matt Jones have been busts to this point. They need to upgrade the position but another first round pick is out and a big free agent isn't likely nor are any available. The improvement will have to come from the group already there. They have great size and overall speed is good, but that hasn't gotten them much on the field. </articlebody>
