<title>Saints take Porter in round two</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Saints were looking to trade for TE Jeremy Shockey and their second round pick was what was discussed in a trade.. but instead they selected CB Tracy Porter. The Saints needed another corner and he is a good one. Shockey still could be traded but the odds are down a bit </articlebody>

<title>Jeremy Shockey still a Giant for now</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Giants TE Jeremy Shockey still is a member of the New York team but don't expect him to be one after this weekend. He has worn out his welcome and the Saints are very interested... the question is the price. Reports have the Saints sending a second round pick for him, but this may not be announced until they are on the clock, or the Saints may try and lower the price. A hunch... look for a deal overnight between round two and three for a third round pick tomorrow and another pick next year </articlebody>

<title>All safe in New York</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The jobs are safe in New York it appears this year in the NFL. After nearly being fired, Tom Coughlin is safe (obviously) and now according to the New York Daily News so is the Jets coach Eric Mangini and general manager Mike Tannenbaum. Their owner Woody Johnson isn't looking for a one year turn around. That is good I guess but after spending all that money they better improve! Still it's wise to keep them off the hot seat. One of the worst things would be to spend all that money and then fire the coach the next year only to find the new coach they wanted say the players don't fit his scheme. Notice how long some teams take to transition to a 3-4 when a new coach takes over that wants to go that way. It is easier to switch to the 4-3, but Calvin Pace has shown he didn't fit as well there. If Johnson wants what the Patriots have it is wise to give it some time. The Jets played well over their heads in that first year with Mangini, last year was bad... let's see what this year brings without all the pressure being on his shoulders to keep his job out of the gate... then again it worked well in New York last year didn't it </articlebody>

<title>Giants buy broken down Carr</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Giants fixed a nearly broken season last year to end up Super Bowl champs and now it seems they think they can fix a broken Carr too. They have agreed to a one year $1 million deal with former Panthers failure David Carr to backup Eli Manning (better hope he doesn't get hurt). QB coach Chris Palmer knows him from their time in Houston together, but that didn't end too well either. In the end it isn't a very expensive risk considering they didn't have a great backup anyway and Carr isn't guaranteed to make the roster </articlebody>

<title>Giants sign Sammy Knight</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The New York Giants have signed veteran safety Sammy Knight to replace Gibril Wilson. Knight got a 3 year $5.15 million contract with $1.25 million as a signing bonus... quite a bit less than the $39 million Wilson got in Oakland. <title>Raiders have lost it</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Raiders were dysfunctional before, now we will just call them nuts. First they gave Tommy Kelly over $50 million (was there any competition?). Now they have signed former Giants safety Gibril Wilson to a 6 year $39 million deal with $16 million guaranteed, making him the third highest paid safety in the league! Don't get us wrong Wilson is a good safety and will fit well with the Raiders but this is way too much. Maybe it's just that they have to over pay to get people to come here knowing the head coach even now isn't off the chopping block for the upcoming year. The last time the Raiders got infatuated by a free agent coming off a Super Bowl (Cowboys Larry Brown) how did that work out when they overpaid for him? Granted he was the Super Bowl MVP </articlebody>

<title>From hot seat to big money</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Last season the term hot seat wasn't strong enough for the amount of trouble Giants head coach Tom Coughlin was in, now less than a year later (and a Super Bowl trophy) he is about to be one of the highest paid coaches in the league. Shows you how sometimes team now a days are too quick to cut and run. According to the New York Daily News Coughlin will get a 4 year extension worth $21 </articlebody>

<title>Wasting tax payers dollars</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Ah yes tax time is near and the pain of seeing how much money we fork over to cause deep pain in our stomachs. Then of course there is all the good that comes from it, such as members of congress spending the day listening to the he said she said of Roger Clemens and Brian McNamee (don't forget Andy Pettitte too) and now a new wonderful word "Nannygate", ugh what has this world come to? Add to that Arlen Specter grilling NFL commissioner Roger Goodell over the spygate issue, threatening congressional hearings and the league's antitrust exemption. Do these blowhard's not have anything better to do with their days??? Do we not have any serious issues to be tackled in this great country that we have time to bicker and seek headlines with this crap? Hey guys call me when you fix the economy, health care, homelessness in this rich country and a list longer than.... then we can get around to which retired baseball players did what. Other than Barry Bonds the rest of this is ridiculous and makes me not want to pay attention to the sports we all love so much. This country has become addicted to soap opera's and reality crap where everyone wants their 15 minutes. It's not like this is all brand new, the Steelers of the 70s admittedly used steroids and they certainly were not alone but no one is calling to take back their Super Bowl wins. Lester Hayes is probably my favorite corner of all time, but he reported used something to help him get a better grip. Can we all just move on and focus on trying to fix things rather than going over the top about the past. Either way Roger was dominant, the Patriots were superior and as much as it pains us Bonds was a Hall of Famer before they all crossed the line </articlebody>

<title>18-1 and done</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Well there will be no finishing perfect this year and unfortunately we still have to put up with the aging Dolphins and their damn interviews and quotes for years going forward. The Giants ended the Patriots drive for the perfect season with a great game. They open with a great drive but could only finish with a field goal, but their defense was able to hold the mighty Patriots offense in check. Both QB's had good 4th quarters, but Manning led the ultimate to win the game and get the critics off his back. To think where this team was in week three it was an amazing run </articlebody>

<title>Favre does in Packers</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Giants came away win the surprising win over the Packers... and what made it more surprising was Brett Favre throwing an interception in OT to help their cause. Favre and the offense looked stagnant all game and if not for a big pass play it might have been over much earlier. Eli Manning has really stepped up as of late and is doing a good job, as is the defense that looked lost to start the season. The Giants now face the Patiots in their final game to perfection. They played them well in the season finale, now can they improve on it </articlebody>

<title>Justin Tuck rich in NY</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Giants are rich at defensive end, and now all their ends are rich too. Justin Tuck has agreed to a 5 year $30 million extension with a whopping $16 million guaranteed. That is a pretty nice contract for a layer just finishing his third year. Prior to this year he had one year sack and finish with 10 in a reserve role this year. Tuck has looked great this year and will take over for Strahan if he retire, or next year... they found ways to use all three very well this year </articlebody>

<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Giants are holding off the second half swoon so far this year. Now can Eli Manning step up in the playoffs? They will have to do it as a wild card team, which means on the road. <title>Giants pull out a win</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Redskins were up 17-3 on their way to a 3-0 start but then the Giants finally got going and pulled out a 24-17 win. The Redskins had a chance to tie at the end and had some impressive plays on the final drive, but rushed too much, clocking the ball on first down near the goal line and hurrying up on 4th and goal... with time on the clock they rushed and were stopped on 4th down by the Giants D that needed a big stop. Their defense was a big key in the second half allowing them to come back. Plaxico had all of his 5 catches for 86 yards and a TD in the second half. Doomsday will have to wait a week in Giants-land, now can they build on a great second half and come out this way next week? As for the Redskins, it was a tough loss but they must be happy starting out 2-1 as well </articlebody>

<title>Tough times in New York</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Giants are still in pain! Despite Eli Manning starting the game and looking pretty good, the Giants got their butt whipped by the surprisingly solid Green Bay Packers who now stand 2-0 after a 35-13 trouncing on the road. The Giants defense will shoulder the blame here. Tom Coughlin will not be an easy coach this week if he ever was. One positive for the Giants was Derrick Ward's running in place of Brandon Jacobs. The Packers got a great effort from Brett Favre, but they are still looking for the running game (hint it is in Houston playing for the Texans). The Giants fall to 0-2 and don't look ready to improve </articlebody>

<title>Note to Eli</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>A note to Eli - throw the ball to Plaxico.. Cowboys corner Jacques Reeves looked futile in trying to stop him and was giving way to much cushion, there were plenty of easy opportunities to pick up a few yards and a chance to break a tackle and gain more. Oh and one more... next week cover the middle of the field, wow what a gaping hole that allowed Jason Witten to keep catching easy passes wide open on third down </articlebody>

"It doesn't make sense that LaRon Landry is the highest paid safety in the game," Cowboys executive Stephen Jones told me. "And that Joe Thomas (Cleveland's top pick) has a better deal than Tom Brady. For example, Chiefs running back Larry Johnson signed yesterday for less guaranteed money than what Johnson and Thomas collected, and only a moron would say those rookies deserve more than one of the NFL's best running backs... we're right there with you John, good work</A> </articlebody>

<title>What a mess in New York</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>It is funny, the New York Giants brought in Tom Coughlin because they needed more of a displinarian. The team was too disfunctional... how well did it work? If possible it got worse. With Michael Strahan debating retirement, the Giants have now begun fining him for missing training camp, $14,288 a day according to a Newsday report. Add in his friend and defensive linemate Osi Umenyiora saying Simeon Rice, who the team will bring in for a visit has "no future with the team". Who is he to make a decision like that? They both play on the same side of the line and Osi says he won't move for Rice... what a childish mess this team is. It makes us wonder why Coughlin wants to be there. He needs to do what Dennis Erickson did in his second and last year in San Francisco... don't deal with much, try too hard or seem too concerned and wait to be fired. We're am not sure things can be worse there </articlebody>

<articlebody>The New York Giants bolstered their depth by signing DT Marcus Bell and defensive back Michael Stone, they also agreed to terms on a 2 year deal for QB Anthony Wright to backup Eli Manning according to the Star-Ledger. Super bust WR Charles Rodgers was also in for a workout as he tries (sort of) to get back into the league, no confirmation of the reported yawns during his running of the 40, though we did confirm no one actually fell asleep before he crossed the finish line (good thing he ran it midday). It is Stone's 4th team in four years, he played in a couple games last year for the Texans. Bell was released earlier this off season by the Lions. <articlebody>The Green Bay Packers have added depth in the secondary with the signing of former Giants CB Frank Walker to a one year deal worth up to $1.5 million with incentives. Walker will fit in with the Packers scheme on defense, he is a hard nosed player and based on the current depth should easily win the nickel job </articlebody>

<title>Running backs keep moving</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Running backs in the top this year's draft are watching the movement of all the back closely. The New York Giants were in need of a back according to ESPN have traded WR Tim Carter to the Cleveland Browns for RB Reuben Droughns. The Giants wanted a back to paid with Brandon Jacobs after Tiki Barber's retirement now have that spot secured with Droughns. The Browns signed Jamal Lewis to only a one year back which leads to speculation they will still draft Adrian Peterson at number three, but the list of teams that need a back in the first round is dwindling. One team that is left is the Green Bay Packers who have pretty much sat on their hands and watched all the backs sign. Buffalo and Detroit are also still in the market. Free agents still on the market include Chris Brown who is expected to sign soon, T.J. Duckett and possibly Corey Dillion </articlebody>

<title>Giants stay centered</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The New York Giants retained center Shaun O'Hara just hours before he was set to be a free agent. According to the New York Daily News it is a 5 year deal worth $19 million and about $7 million is guaranteed. This is a big signing for the Giants who already cut Luke Petitgout and saw Bob Whitfield retire. They will shuffle the left side of the line moving guard David Diehl to left tackle and insert Rich Seubert at guard short of any other moves or draft picks pushing them for jobs. Depth on the line still needs to be addressed </articlebody>

<title>Giants may lose their center</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>New York Giants center Shaun O'Hara could be leaving the team. According to the Star Ledger they are preparing for life without him. Last week they thought they would be able to resign him, but after Cowboys center Andre Gurode got $5 million a year his demands went up. If he hits the free agent market which it seems he now will it will be hard to compete. Too many teams have a lot of cap space and someone will offer more than they should and the Giants won't match </articlebody>

<articlebody>Bills RB Willis McGahee's name is being heard at the combine in trade rumors. He would like out of Buffalo and it appears the Giants may be interested as they look for a replacement for Tiki Barber. The combine is a place where trades and future free agents are discussed almost as much as the draftees. Rumors always swirl but the Bills are clearly looking and listening as it concerns McGahee </articlebody>

<title>Tiki Barber crying and swinging</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Well it didn't take long for former Giants RB Tiki Barber to take some shots at former coach Tom Coughlin. Not sure if we should call it criticizing or whining so we'll compromise and call it crying. Barber said the coach took a toll on him and wore him down. Not that we are fans of Coughlin's but sounds like Tiki needs to take off the diapers and find some pants for men. The Giants players are too immersed in the New York media and talking out of turn. Tiki most likely has been counting the days for his tirade. Granted Coughlin has his flaws, but it gets tiring and wears us down listening to highly paid athletes consistently whining like this </articlebody>

<title>Giants Bob Whitfield retires</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Giants OLT Bob Whitfield has decide to call it a career. He has announced his retirement, saving the Giants the need to release him. In his day he was a top left tackle for the Falcons, but in later years his play dropped off. While some veterans can hang on with their smarts to close out their career he seemed to become more stupid with time. Twice head butting players in front of an official... think that will draw a flag?? He didn't close his career out real strong and was on the bad side of Tom Coughlin and seems to know it was time to say goodbye. This is the second tackle to leave New York as starter Luke Petitgout was released as well. The Giants will likely look to the draft for some help and may use David Diehl next season at left tackle </articlebody>

<title>Giants get going with off season</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The New York Giants jump started their off season by releasing three starters. LBs LaVar Arrington and Carlos Emmons as well as starting left tackle Luke Petitgout. All three players missed time this year with injuries. The Giants clearly need to shake things up and this is a good start. Arrington has had a rough few years and was a disappointment in New York. It will be interesting to see how much interest he generates in free agency, bet on him not getting another 7 year $49 million deal </articlebody>

<title>NFL goes to London</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>In one of the NFL's dumbest moves the Miami Dolphins will play the New York Giants in London in 2007 according to an AP report. The game was announced previously with the Dolphins being the home team. We understand the NFL wants to branch out more but this is just about money and not good for the game. Anyone believe the players want to fly across the Atlantic to play a game? Sure it will sell out and yes it will generate big revenue, but how will it impact the two teams? The NFL has said it will use the bye week to lessen the impact. Unless they play the game on a Thursday night coming off the bye week though it would still be a short turn around for the next week, and Thursday night isn't a big enough night. This is a stupid idea to generate money at the cost of the game itself </articlebody>
