<title>Eagles add a playmaker</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Eagles got a lineman to start, now they go for more of a need with WR DeSean Jackson, a very small but explosive receiver </articlebody>

<title>Eagles get the Law</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Eagles always like to draft on the lines... with their first pick they took DT Trevor Laws. While it shouldn't be a need with all the d'lineman they have taken lately, Laws is a great player. Very good pick and they want to play in a rotation and regardless of Eagles fans thought he will be a very good choice </articlebody>

<title>Eagles trade down again</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Eagles have traded down again, this time with the Vikings who came up to get safety Tyrell Johnson, who many were talking in the last week sneaking into the first round. A great addition the Vikings didn't want to see go. Interesting as the Eagles could use a safety and trade a pick that is used on a safety... similar in the first round where Jeff Otah would have been a good pick for them, but they got good value in the trade </articlebody>

<title>Panthers price</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Eagles will get the Panthers 2nd and 4th round pick this year AND their first rounder next year. The Panthers paid way too big a price to get him. The Eagles were questioned a minute ago but now we like this trade </articlebody>

<title>Panthers move way up</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Panthers have moved up into the first round again... trading with the Eagles to select tackle Jeff Otah. Well another pick we call at the right spot, had him in the mock draft here to the Eagles which made a lot of sense, but the Panthers moved up here to get him. The Eagles are not out of the first round and could have used Otah with the age they have at tackle, not sure I understand this. What did the Panthers have to give up? It will be expensive. The Panthers come out with a new back and someone to block for him </articlebody>

<title>Bengals may be nuts</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Bengals may be nuts, is this news? According to ESPN the Bengals have turned down an offer from the Washington Redskins for WR Chad Johnson... a first round pick this year, #21 overall, and a conditional third round pick next year that could escalate to a first rounder! Also they have told the Eagles and Cowboys they are not interested in trading the malcontent childish receiver. Hey were all for demanding players knock off the cry baby crap, threatening to hold out for the year etc. It's not like Johnson is not being paid well, he is. He can rot while others play the game for all we care, same should have been done with T.O. when he was whining to get out of the deal that had him go to the Ravens to end up in Philly, how well did that work out? Johnson is making enemies and we like the Bengals stand but it must hurt to pass up an offer like that </articlebody>

<title>2008 NFL Mock Draft</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>So it's time to release our first 2008 NFL Mock Draft - another will come Friday before the draft. <title>Drafting wide receivers</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The NFL draft is a crapshoot and the 2008 version appears to be a little more than usual. No true #1 pick, some safer picks, some with more upside.... then there is the one constant, the danger of drafting a wide receiver in round one. Rookie receivers usually do not make a big impact, junior wide receivers may be flashy choices but are even more dangerous. This year the name moving up the charts is Devin Thomas... who? He is from Michigan State and a one year wonder. Let's see a junior with only one year of production, runs fast and has good size.. shoot him up the board.... danger!

What about a couple receivers who were consider near the top - Mario Manningham and Malcolm Kelly - both juniors and both falling down the boards. Neither ran a quality 40 time, but they have excuses. Those are part of the problem. Manningham lied about failing drug tests in college, then admitted to it and then sounded like an idiot on a national radio show. He clearly doesn't get it, but it appears NFL GM's do and there is little chance he goes in round one now. Kelly didn't run well and blamed his school for changing the surface he was to run on.... you see he had special shoes and everything. Ok this shoe thing is true of everyone now a days (ugh) but to come out and bash the school was an immature and dumb move on his part.

Why do people get so caught up on a 40 time of someone on a track with special shoes when they have been preparing to run this drill for months. Are they ever asked to run the 40 without pads and in tracks shoes during a game? Jerry Rice ran a 4.55 40 coming out of college but didn't look that slow when the speedy Redskins corner Darrell Green was chasing him... who really cares. I understand it has some value but it is far too overrated. How many times do receivers run in the 4.3s and then you hear people say that team needs receivers you can stretch the field and their current group isn't getting it done. The 40 speed doesn't make them a deep threat. Even better there have been top track guys playing receiver in the NFL and referred to as more of a possession guy... not saying the assessment was wrong but pointing out they were track stars just a couple years ago... NFL speed is different than track speed. Being fast at one doesn't make you fast at the other, get it? There are plenty of teams needing a receiver and some will reach for one, more will regret than will rejoice and fans will be excited in April and forget their names in October... such is life in the NFL in April </articlebody>

<title>Philly shopping for receiver</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The rumors of star receivers coming to Philadelphia haven't come true and likely won't, but they may have just found a target for free. Darrell Jackson who was released by the 49ers would do well to get back into a West Coast offense and while not a #1 anymore, he has experience and may do better than the Eagles other options. Not to say he would succeed as the Seahawks let him go rather cheaply and to a division rival last year... seems they were right about him, but a change of scenery and return to an offense that suits him may help. Though if he drops balls again like last year (and more than a few in Seattle over the years) the Philly fans will turn quickly on him, it could be a low risk trial as he should be had rather inexpensively at least on a one year deal. The Titans may not be a natural fit but will likely be looking as well </articlebody>

<title>49ers visit with Spikes</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The 49ers are bringing in former Eagles LB Takeo Spikes for a visit Thursday according to the NFL Network. On the surface it doesn't seem like a great fit. Spikes is 31 and has had some injury issues in the last few years, but he is a tough inside linebacker who could fill the ted role next to Patrick Willis. The have already signed Dontarrious Thomas to compete for the spot but it wasn't a big money deal and he could be a valuable backup at all 4 spots as well. Despite the injuries Spikes has still played well when on the field and could be a good veteran addition to a defense in need of it after losing Bryant Young and most likely Marques Douglas as well </articlebody>

<title>Cardinals keep Fitzgerald for real</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>All the rumors about Larry Fitzgerald can finally stop, the Eagles are not going to get him. Rumors have been rampant, and not just this year. This time the Cardinals and Fitzgerald agreed on a new contract extension to help with the massive cap number the Cardinals were so stupid to negotiate into his rookie deal. The new 4 year $40 million extension has $31 million guaranteed and $15 million as a signing bonus as well as a $2 million salary so he is getting a little more than the $14.5 million he was scheduled to be paid this year. The move also clears almost $9 million in salary cap space for the team which desperately needs it </articlebody>

<title>Freak returns to Tennessee</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Freak, DE Jevon Kearse has returned to the Tennessee Titans after a big money, but disappointing trip to Philadelphia. Kearse was a major bust for the Eagles and wasn't going to generate big interest in free agency, so he decided to return to where he knew success... and a team with a huge need after losing Antwan Odom and Travis LaBoy to free agency </articlebody>

<title>Asante Samuel heading to Philly</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Asante Samuel is heading to Philly... no he hasn't signed yet, but the Eagles announced he is coming for a visit. They know how huge his demands are and wouldn't be willing to bring him in unless they were willing to pay. Odds are he is announced as the newest Eagle this afternoon. Does that open up the rumored trade of corner Lito Sheppard to the Patriots? He would be expendable in Philly and the Patriots have a serious need </articlebody>

<title>Eagles early favorite for Asante Samuel</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Philadelphia Eagles are the early favorite for Patriots CB Asante Samuel, but the Saints and Bucs are players too. The Saints interest may be fading a bit and that would be good for the Eagles but the Bucs have more cap room than anyone so they certainly can make a big offer and put a lot of money up front </articlebody>

The other target for the Eagles early will be DJ Hackett who would fit the system coming over from Seattle </articlebody>

<title>Wasting tax payers dollars</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Ah yes tax time is near and the pain of seeing how much money we fork over to cause deep pain in our stomachs. Then of course there is all the good that comes from it, such as members of congress spending the day listening to the he said she said of Roger Clemens and Brian McNamee (don't forget Andy Pettitte too) and now a new wonderful word "Nannygate", ugh what has this world come to? Add to that Arlen Specter grilling NFL commissioner Roger Goodell over the spygate issue, threatening congressional hearings and the league's antitrust exemption. Do these blowhard's not have anything better to do with their days??? Do we not have any serious issues to be tackled in this great country that we have time to bicker and seek headlines with this crap? Hey guys call me when you fix the economy, health care, homelessness in this rich country and a list longer than.... then we can get around to which retired baseball players did what. Other than Barry Bonds the rest of this is ridiculous and makes me not want to pay attention to the sports we all love so much. This country has become addicted to soap opera's and reality crap where everyone wants their 15 minutes. It's not like this is all brand new, the Steelers of the 70s admittedly used steroids and they certainly were not alone but no one is calling to take back their Super Bowl wins. Lester Hayes is probably my favorite corner of all time, but he reported used something to help him get a better grip. Can we all just move on and focus on trying to fix things rather than going over the top about the past. Either way Roger was dominant, the Patriots were superior and as much as it pains us Bonds was a Hall of Famer before they all crossed the line </articlebody>

<title>John Harbaugh new head coach of Ravens</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Baltimore Ravens have hired Eagles assistant John Harbaugh as their new head coach. Harbaugh made his name as a special teams coordinator and moved this year to the secondary to help him increase his visibility to become a head coach. With a little help from Jason Garrett, it worked. Harbaugh is an interesting hire and a lot will depend on the coordinators he hires. One smart hire would be Rex Ryan to continue with the defense. He was fired and is a candidate in Atlanta currently. Harbaugh is a good leader and could be an excellent choice, but this is a team built to win now and a young first time head coach will need strong leadership around him </articlebody>

<title>Need a QB in Chicago</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>This year cemented the need for a new QB in Chicago. Kyle Orton is a good backup, Rex just needs a change of scenary and the Bears need someone new to run the most important position on the field. That certainly isn't the only concern this off season, but it has to be the starting point. Not sure this leads to Donovan McNabb who would not be cheap to get away from the Eagles and the Bears have to many holes to fill to create more. Not to mention there would be some others interested if the Eagles did put him on the market </articlebody>

<title>Swirling in Philly</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>Can you hear that swirling sound in Philadelphia? It is the sound of the Eagles money going down the drain. Defensive end Jevon Kearse is now officially being sent to the bench and will be gone after the season. The Eagles did so well for many years not breaking the bank in free agency, when they finally did it got them Jevon Kearse who has had too many injuries since then, Darren Howard who wasn't worth it and that wide receiver named... oh ya T.O. Well his talent was worth the money but I think he obviously did more harm than good even if he helped get them to the Super Bowl. They didn't do well using high picks on their ends either, Juqua Thomas will step in for the Freak </articlebody>

<title>Can we have some defense please</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>For the second straight week we had a game featuring absolutely no defense. Eagles QB Donovan McNabb picked the right week to have a monster game, connecting with Kevin Curtis for an NFL record of receiving yards in the first half, Curtis finish with 21 of McNabb's 381 yards. Brian Westbrook also went for over 100 yards on the ground in their 56-21 romping of the Detroit Lions who saw their 2-0 start come to a screeching halt! Give their offense some credit though as Jon Kitna threw 446 yards on the day, Mike Martz said he liked him, but all those yards didn't lead to enough points and Martz hasn't been part of a great defense in a long time </articlebody>

<title>McNabb getting grouchy</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The usually careful Eagles QB Donovan McNabb finally spouted off, telling HBO that black quarterbacks get more criticism than their white counterparts. That may be so Donovan, but here's a hint don't say that after you start 0-2 and have lost 6 of the last 7 games you started. You play in Philly, a town tough for anyone to play in! We'll avoid the debate as it will get plenty of airtime and just say it doesn't come at the best time </articlebody>

<title>Trouble in Philly</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Philadelphia Eagles are off to another 0-2 start, but don't expect a quick turnaround this year. They are not looking so good. On the other side the Redskins are 2-0 after the 20-12 win on Monday night. QB Jason Campbell is steadily improving for the Redskins and Joe Gibbs has to be happy with the start. Eagles fans are, well how should we say it? A little less than happy as they have lost 6 of the last 7 games that McNabb has started. </articlebody>

<title>Great article</title>

"It doesn't make sense that LaRon Landry is the highest paid safety in the game," Cowboys executive Stephen Jones told me. "And that Joe Thomas (Cleveland's top pick) has a better deal than Tom Brady. For example, Chiefs running back Larry Johnson signed yesterday for less guaranteed money than what Johnson and Thomas collected, and only a moron would say those rookies deserve more than one of the NFL's best running backs... we're right there with you John, good work</A> </articlebody>

<articlebody>The 49ers added more depth to their defensive line signing former Eagle DT Sam Rayburn to a one year deal according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. The deal is for the veteran's minimum and in their 3-4 he will backup at both end and possibly nose tackle. The 49ers tried to get Rayburn years ago when they traded Terrell Owens to the Eagles. <title>Eagles draft is a head scratcher</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>The Eagles started the draft off very oddly and finished much the same. Trading with a division rival so they could get a rush linebacker to chase down your QB was odd. Not as odd as selecting QB Kevin Kolb with their first but... can't say anything other than wow. Day two landed them a pair of corners, a tight end and the second running back of the draft... very odd weekend in Philly. They definitely stand as the losers of the draft. Usually one of the better teams didn't do so well this year and it could cost them in the future </articlebody>

New head coach Wade Phillips wanted a second rush linebacker and in Anthony Spencer it's possible he got the best one in the draft. According to ESPN the deal is worth more than $30 million for 6 years and has $12 million in guarantees. Stallworth has great deep speed but hasn't never lived up to expectations missing time last year with hamstring problems. He has the potential to be great, or close to it, and can stretch the field... but we keep coming back to one question. Why not just have signed Deion Branch last year? Ok so maybe that is part of what taught them a lesson, and they got a first round pick in return but he had a great rapport with Tom Brady already and didn't get much more than they just gave Donte'. Definitely a change of face in New England, and we have to wonder about the potential for it to backfire </articlebody>

Hood is similar, a tough physical corner who can be exposed deep at times, but worthy of getting a chance to start. With the earlier addition of Terrence Holt the Cardinals have improved themselves. <title>49ers targeting a couple of Eagles</title>
<author>PFInsider.net</author>
<articlebody>A couple of players to watch in free agency for the San Francisco 49ers are two Philadelphia Eagles reserves, CB Roderick Hood and DE Juqua Thomas. Hood has decent size at 5'11 and 196 lbs., and was the team's nickel back but could become a starter much like Al Harris did when he left the Eagles as their nickel back to become the best player in the Packers secondary. Hood would add depth at corner and would compete for a starting spot and eventually replace Walt Harris who played well last year but will turn 33 before the start of the season. Nate Clements will be targeted as well, but Hood could be the second option if Clements price goes too high. Thomas is an undersized end at 250 lbs. and would be moved to outside linebacker where he could rush the passer. He doesn't hold up to the run well at end but a move to linebacker would help him there as well. He has a good motor and can chase plays down from the back side as well </articlebody>

We'd list all the offenses except for the fear of carpal tunnel syndrome. The drug charges included cocaine, Oxycodone and marijuana. One report said the teen was a "white teen acting like a gangster" - don't you love that. Reid was known for great team chemistry and discipline - prior to the player known as T.O. Actually there were some signs of trouble before with Hugh Douglas and Jeremiah Trotter leaving years ago before their returns... but now it has extended to the family. The NFL has a growing list of incidents in past years and new commissioner Roger Goodell wants player to be more accountable, apparently that doesn't start and end in Cincinnati </articlebody>
