Final 2008 NFL Mock Draft Friday Apr 25th, 2008 |

Ok here is our final mock draft. With all the talk of how there are not many top 10 trades because of the high cost and the quicker draft, 10 minutes instead of 15, there is a huge potential for a lot of trades in the first round. The top 10 is wide open with the Saints the most likely to move up but they are not the only ones. The later part of the round is open for teams in the first part of round two to move up for a quarterback. The Cowboys, Chargers and 49ers are open to moving back. 1 Dolphins OT Jake Long Question is how much? 2 Rams DE Chris Long They are split on Long and Dorsey, and the Falcons may come to the rescue and trade up for Dorsey, giving them Long at #3 and an extra pick. 3 Falcons DT Glenn Dorsey Matt Ryan is a possibility, but with all the second round picks they can trade back into the first round or grab one then. 4 Raiders RB Darren McFadden Speed, pure and simple. Chris Long would be the pick if he fell and Vernon Gholston is possible as well. 5 Chiefs OG/OT Branden Albert The Chiefs need to come out of the first round with an offensive lineman and a corner. THis is too high for a corner and probably for a lineman too, but Albert and Clady are possible here. If the Saints offer is right they should jump to go down to #10 and take either a lineman there and then corner at #17. With all the extra pick they have and more if they deal with the Saints they should trade back into the bottom of round one for their favor quarterback and look for a defensive lineman with their next pick. 6 Jets OLB Vernon Gholston Wouldn't be our choice, Ellis would be better even tough they appear not to agree. McFadden if he is available would make it easier. 7 Patriots DT Sedrick Ellis Can always use premier lineman. If he is still on the board the Saints may help the Patriots move down and then could grab Keith Rivers or their pick of corners. 8 Ravens QB Matt Ryan If only he falls this far it will be easy. Holding their breath already? 9 Bengals LB Keith Rivers The best value in the front seven. 10 Saints CB Leodis McKelvin They want to move up badly for Ellis or Dorsey. 11 Bills WR Devin Thomas Would be a horrible pick, but seems like what they may do. Better value at corner and get a receiver later 12 Broncos OT Ryan Clady Not likely Clady will fall this far but would be gone in a heart beat if he does. Can get a running back later as they always do. 13 Panthers DE Derrick Harvey Will help rebuild the defensive line that used to intimidate 14 Bears OT Chris Williams Mendenhall is possible but they need someone to block first. 15 Lions RB Rashard Mendenhall Lots to choose from but they want to be a run first team, here is their back. 16 Cardinals CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie Corner and running back are the top choices and with Mendenhall gone Rodgers-Cromartie or McKelvin should be it. Stewart is a possibility, but they may wait until round two or three for their back. 17 Chiefs CB Mike Jenkins The Chiefs take the best corner left here. If the top three are gone, Talib won't be it, then could look to Phillip Merling or possibly get the QB here. Chad Henne? 18 Texans RB Johnathon Stewart Not concerned and will let him split carries the first year. 19 Eagles OT Jeff Otah Another big lineman in round one, what a surprise. 20 Buccaneers WR DeSean Jackson Jackson is a much needed playmaker. 21 Redskins DE Phillip Merling Would be happy to see him available. 22 Cowboys WR Limas Sweed The Cowboys could move up but should stay put and address needs. 23 Steelers OT Gosder Cherilus Cherilus and Balmer will create a debate and either would be fine. 24 Titans DT Kentwan Balmer Receiver can be addressed later and Balmer is a good value here. 25 Seahawks TE Dustin Keller Would be a great target in this offense 26 Jaguars S Kenny Phillips Calais Campbell is liked in many mocks but would be a really bad pick. Balmer is their target, but a safety is a a need as well and better value. 27 Chargers LB Jerod Mayo Stewart could slide to here and be a good backup, but Mayo is a better value here. 28 Cowboys RB Felix Jones Felix Jones is the easy choice but not the right one. There will be good options in the second round. Unless they feel Aqib Talib isn't a risk (which he very much is) there isn't a corner here for them. Flowers, Smith and Cason are possible though. 29 49ers LB Quentin Groves In dire need of pass rush and Cherilus is gone. They could look to move back as well. 30 Packers CB Brandon Flowers A physical corner that would be a good addition, but as last year proved they will take whoever is rated highest and could be open to trade back as well. 31 Giants LB Dan Conner A smart linebacker that Tom Coughlin will love Well we know we got one right, that's something. Who is the most likely person we picked to fall out of round one? How about two, Dan Conner and Felix Jones. Groves, Sweed and Kenny Phillips are also possible but none of these should fall past #10 in round two. Names to watch not in our first round? Our favorite is John Greco of Toledo, a guard/tackle who plays the game with passion. It is possible he slides into the end of round one, but more likely goes high in round two but he is a name not many talk about who will be a very good starter for a long time. A coupe of wide receivers to note, Donnie Avery and Eddie Royal are both under sized but add a lot as returners. Both are small and therefore some have concerns about durability and getting off jams. Avery may go first but Royal is strong and could be the better of the two. A name that won't be called until well into day two but will be a great value when picked is Jacob Hester of LSU. He plays the game the right way, will do anything he is asked to, will be a great special teams player, can run, block and catch. He doesn't have the numbers but he has the heart and he will last much longer in the NFL than a great number of players drafted ahead of him. |
