Top NFL News & Rumors
  • The Seahawks have sent Pro Bowl linebacker Julian Peterson to the Lions (boys isn't he thrilled) for defensive tackle Cory Redding and a 5th round pick. The Seahawks had wanted Peterson to take a pay cut and were considering releasing him if they didn't find a trade partner.

So Redding has been in the league 6 years and has 16 sacks and Peterson has 46 sacks in 9 years. Yes Redding is younger but this was a bad move for the Seahawks. Peterson is a proven pass rusher and while Redding will help against the run and means BJ Raji is out as an option in the first round it leaves a void at linebacker. Peterson was a three down player and his versatility a huge plus. The Seahawks could draft a replacement in Aaron Curry, but he won't likely last until number four. With the resigning of Ray WIllis, tackle looks out, so wide receiver... or a surprise... quarterback. Others will speculate trade, but not many teams want to trade up into the top 5... don't believe the Eagles so called rumors. Anytime a team has two first rounds picks airheads in the media claim there are rumors they are trying to move up. They have no news and just guess because they have the ammo.

The move is huge for the Lions adding a dynamic player who went to school at Michigan State. It likely means they won't draft Aaron Curry with the top pick...
  • We would like to send our condolences to Bills QB Trent Edwards who suffered a great loss today... his sanity. In an amazing announcement the Buffalo Bills have signed T.O. - Terrible Owens to a one year $6.5 million deal that is fully guaranteed!

So T.O. in little ole Buffalo? He should fit right in there eh? Th Bills wanted to upgrade themselves at receiver and take the opposing defenses focus off Lee Evans, well they succeeded, congratulations to them, sort of. Owens is a talent, spectacular in his own mind, but we are lost to figure out how he will fit in here. Give his loud mouth piece credit for finding him a job, and quicker than even he predicted, though when only the Bills called how long could he wait to take their offer...
  • The draft of 2006 was supposed to be a highly stocked draft... Reggie Bush, Vince Young, Matt Leinart... now Young and Leinart are riding the pine with limited chance to get back on the field as a starter with the team that drafted him. Bush didn't find the NFL as easy to run through as he did in college. Young and Leinart each are behind veterans who just signed a two year deal to start for the Titans and Cardinals so neither of the youngsters appears to be getting on the field soon.

If Leinart would have come out as a junior he may have been the #1 choice instead of Alex Smith, who for a number of reason is deciding if he wants to redo his deal and try and compete for starting spot but most likely be the backup as well.

Not so easy for teams drafting high and investing a lot of money in these quarterbacks. Will the Lions see this or Matt Ryan? Is one of the tackles their future on the left side and a safer pick like Jake Long? Increasingly the top of the draft is looking for safety considering the money involved...
  • The Broncos flirtation with Matt Cassell didn't work, but they did add another quarterback to the mix. Former Bucs and Titans QB Chris Simms signed a 2 year deal worth $6 million but back up the crybaby Jay Cutler. Simms had plenty of suitors and unless Cutler refuses to come out of the house and play SImms will be on the bench in Denver. There was some discussion earlier that he could get a chance to start in Chicago but that didn't pan out. The Titans wanted him back but with Kerry Collins and Vince Young around there wasn't much space.

As for Cutler is has been said already by plenty of others, but he needs to shut up...
  • The Seahawks have resigned guard/tackle Ray Willis to a 2 year deal. It is a good deal for the Seahawks to keep continuity on their line and Willis appeared to finally step up last year splitting time between right guard and right tackle...
  • The Bears have resigned running back Kevin Jones to a 2 year $3.5 million deal with $2 million to sign. The former first round pick who had a good rookie year has seen injuries ruin those bright lights and is now a solid backup and chose to stay in Chicago over going to Buffalo to be the #2 man...
  • Here is an interesting tidbit, the Colts are one of the team who will get a private workout from USC QB Mark Sanchez before his pro day. With where they are drafting in round one he won't likely be there, and someone mentioned to me the other day the Colts had a decent quarterback. I am sure they can always do better tho right? Hmnn this is an interesting one. Well if he takes a big slide in round he would be a good value there but still could they really take him...
  • The Packers have finally awaken to have found free agency has started. From their slumber they wasted little time in signing former Steelers safety Anthony Smith. He comes with an understanding of the 3-4 defense the Packers will use and was an up and coming player before disappearing this year. The Steelers didn't even tender him as a restricted free agent. Not a good sign, but maybe the change of scenery will help. He will get a chance to compete with Arari Bigby for a starting spot and help improve the depth that exposed the Packers secondary last year...
  • The Cowboys have signed former Chargers DE Igor Olshansky to a 4 year $18 million deal. Olshanskyis a perfect fit as a 3-4 end and Wade Phillips knows him well from their time together in San Diego. Olshansky is strong as an ox but doesn't provide much in the way of a pass rush. He will replace Chris Canty who signed with the Giants and be solid against the run...
  • The Eagles have fond their short term replacement to Brian Dawkins having signed former Browns safety Sean Jones to a one year deal. The safeties are not doing so well in free agency this year. The Dolphins paid well for Gibril Wilson and resigning Yeremiah Bell but other than that it has been much quieter and cheaper. That isn't good considering it isn't real strong spot in the draft either. There are some second and third round guys with potential, but not a lot of excitement...
