Chargers DE Luis Castillo will enjoy training camp a bit more this year after signing a contract extension for 5 years which includes over $43 million in new money ranking him among the top defensive ends in the league. We are not doubting his value to the team, but considering he has 13 sacks in three years and a top of 7 two years ago it may be a bit rich. This is what sends the big sack guys running to their agent. Granted it is not all about sacks and he is one of the top 3-4 ends in the game, still that's a lot of money...
Jason Taylor finally got out of Miami after the Redskins traded for him. Now that he is in Washington, think he'll try politics too? Or maybe he should just focus on football for now? Novel idea. Was a good move for both but the Redskins always seem to lose draft picks which always seems to haunt them...
The New York Jets have placed unhappy tight end on the PUP list due to his supposed back injury that kept him from working out at mini camp. Some have suggested this is a payback and that Baker could file a grievance... we like the Jets move. Baker likely lied about the injury to avoid a fine for skipping camp so now he is getting back what he asked for. Maybe the Jets are going back on their word, who knows but this all is a bit funny. Either way he will likely be traded in the next month...
So the Bears finally gave LB Brian Urlacher the new contract he wanted. He gets a lot of new money and now the team hopes he and the rest of the defense can stay healthy and make up for a lack of offense...
The New Orleans Saints have finally traded for Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey, and paid the 2nd round pick that was rumored before the draft, throwing in a 5th rounder, both next year for the malcontent tight end. The question is will Shockey be any happier in the Big Easy where the Saints don't plan on upgrading his contract just yet? Talented for sure if he could just shut up long enough, and stay healthy. The giants are definitely thin now but they can acquire another tight end and are glad to be rid of the problem child...
Well we called it a while ago that the Packers and Dolphins could go QB, after Brohm goes to Green Bay, the Dolphins took Michigan QB Chad Henne. So much for John Beck who was taken in round two last year. This is the problem with the quick hook on coaches as everyone wants their guys and run different offenses and defenses and ends up wasting top picks and player from the previous regimes...
